First, it was HTC Evo 4G’s opportunity to run Sprint networks in it’s body, now Sprint is going to run it’s networks in a new warrior called “Epic 4”, developed by Samsung. The new Samsung Epic 4 for Sprint has been named as the first Android powered 4G smartphone to sport a sideway sliding QWERTY Keyboard with AMOLED (Active-matrix organic light-emitting diode).

Samsung has designed the smartphone perfectly to experience the entertainment with HD-like videos with a sideways slide out QWERTY Keyboard, that makes it look like a miniature Netbook. This phone’s release may confuse Sprint subscribers for now, but no need to worry about this, since there are only two 4G phones, both are in different categories, but equally featured phones, that makes you decide, whether you want to shell out an extra 50 bugs for a slide out QWERTY Keyboard or not.

The “Epic 4G” features an excellent HD quality 4.0-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen with high quality brightness and DLNA Media Capable combined with Sprint TV access and the media player with 3.5mm stereo headset jack to play downloaded music and video files, making it a complete mobile entertainment device on the move.

The phone is equipped with two cameras, one VGA Camera in the front and another with 5.0 megapixel with 720p video recording capability included with flash and zoom to capture high-resolution images. The device is capable of switching from 3G to 4G mode on the fly making it 10 times faster than the present 3G network. Epic 4G is powered by 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor, 1GB ROM, 512MB RAM, with a storage capacity of 16GB MicroSD, that can be upgraded up to a maximum of 32 GB. Samsung has installed Android 2.1 OS and Android 2.2 would be released soon to make the device even better.

Additionally, the device is capable of Mobile Hotspot accessibility, Web browsing capable with GPS Navigation enabled, integrated Bluetooth adapter and Wireless 802.11 b/g/n capable for extraordinary Wireless network access.

The device comes pre-installed with Sprint Zone to access phone usage tips, wireless account, list of top applications and more, Android Market to get direct access to tons of applications and games that can be downloaded and installed on the phone, TouchWiz 2.5 to get multi-functional widget support with real-time user-defined options for a great customizable experience, Google Mobile Services for quick access of Google accounts and finally, yet to come Samsung Media Hub to instantly download or stream and view a large collection of videos via Sprint Network or WiFi. The device is also installed with other standard applications like, E-Book Application, Instant Messaging, Mobile Email applications and more.

The dimensions of the phone is 4.9″x 2.5″x 0.6″, weighing 5.46 oz. The retail price of the phone is $499.99, but it’s available only with a 2 years contract with Sprint for $249.99. Hope to see more 4G smartphones from other Android device manufacturers soon, till then best of luck Sprint and Samsung, who knows what new technology will come from your competitors’ stable.
