Dell strikes Android with Streak
August 24, 2010 | Android phone reviews, Android Tablet Reviews
Dell has proved it’s capability of surviving in the markets by launching any devices that work with an Operating System. The recent such revolution from Dell is the Strike. Strike is a tablet powered by Android Operating System. Dell has made the device really smart both ways, like they say look smart and work smart, using the Dell skin and only three buttons below the screen, first one is the “Home”, next is the “Menu” and the third one is “Back”, lacking the navigational trackball, that can be found on most of the other Android devices. The device also features a cradle adapter with HDMI out. Strike has two Cameras, one in the front with a normal VGA resolution, that can be used for video calling and another with 5MP resolution and dual LED flash at the back and 5” 800×480 pixel capacitive touchscreen to play with Android.
The official carrier of the Dell Strike in the US will be AT&T, marketing the tablet for a retail price of $299.99 with a new AT&T contract for two years or $549.99 without a contract. The Streak features 3G WLAN support. Due to it’s sleek dimensions, it can be called a smartphone and for it’s features, it can be a tablet. However, it seems that the device will be a steep competition for other Android devices, especially, which the iPad should be looking forward for.
Currently, the device is powered by Android 1.6 and Dell has promised to release Android 2.2 (Froyo) update, before the end of year 2010. The is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 1 GHz processor, Yes v2.0 with A2DP internal Bluetooth adapter, 16 GB storage with a capability of upgrading the storage capacity up to 32 GB with a microSD card, 512 MB ROM, 512 MB RAM and a Li-Ion 1530 mAh battery.
There are rumors that Dell is developing 7” and 10” models of the Streak and planning to launch the 7” model at the end of 2010 and the 10” model in early 2011. However, this has not been officially announced by Dell.
